While in Utah, Annie went to her very first BYU Basketball Camp.
Taylor was going and we thought it would be fun if they went together for a year.
There is a good chance it might be her last BYU Camp.
Not really, but we may have jumped the gun... a little.
Annie is seven and you have to be nine to go to Camp.
But we figured that since she was as tall as most nine year olds- she'd be fine.
Except she was playing against nine year olds...
and ten year olds...
and eleven year olds...
and twelve year olds who were almost thirteen and needed to wear a sports bra.
But Annie was a good sport.
She did every drill.
She shot every shot (and missed every shot).
And told everyone she was Coach Rose's granddaughter and she knew Jimmer-
and that she got her picture taken with Jimmer-
and had Jimmer's autograph-
and her dad was Facebook friends with Jimmer.
And for whatever reason the girls loved her and were nice to her
and they even crowned her "Cougar of the Day."
They put her on a team that was stacked.
She had a teammate named Annie who was good.
Really good.
In fact, she was so good they crowned her MVP.
So all in all it was a good week.
I don't know if she learned much besides the fact that basketball is lame if you can't score baskets,
but she did enjoy the ice cream machine very much.
It was intense.
Her team made it to the Championship Game, but had to beat the other team twice.
I have to admit at one point, I told Annie not to take the ball out on an inbounds play because I didn't want her to turn it over.
Not my finest parenting moment.
But it came down to the final game
and the last shot with 4 seconds to go,
they were down by one...
and ANNIE hit the game winner.
Not my Annie, of course, but MVP Annie.
But guess what...
That made my Annie a CAMP CHAMP.
And there is nothing better than a camp champ t-shirt.
But the cherry on top of the entire week was at the award ceremonies.
They announced the MVP from the youngest gym-
they said, "This is someone you've seen up here a few times already.
The MVP is Annie!"
And you guessed it... My Annie walks up there to accept her MVP award.
I was DYING.
It was so hilarious.
They all laughed and gave her a BYU sticker because they're nice.
And guess what, she wasn't embarrassed at all- just happy that she got two stickers.
She declared herself "Cougar of the Day" again.
Love her confidence.
So fun to watch this girl.
She is the best.
