Recap of My Impressive Week.

I have had a good week if I do say so myself.
It all started on Sunday when I made homemade ice cream- vanilla-
and then added peaches from our very own (very little) peach tree.
It. was. awesome.
Then Monday we took the girls to do a triathlon (pictures coming soon).
They LOVED it.
(Thanks for the invite Katie).
Then Tuesday was the Ward Swap.
It turned out so great!
We had so many clothes... SO MANY.
Brock ended up driving around the neighborhood and inviting all the neighbors who aren't in our ward. They were pumped.
Brock took these pictures for me.
Good thing he did because I would not have had time.
But I do think he was more concerned about getting a shot of how great his grass is looking.
(Brock, you are the greatest landscaper I know.)
I didn't worry too much about snacks,
but it's not a party without something to eat.
So I made popcorn (which is a food storage item) and drizzled chocolate on it.
Brock and Kate said it was good.
I also wrapped the water bottles with labels that had the definition of frugal.
Frugal-adjective
1. economical in use or expenditure;
prudently saving or sparing;
not wasteful.
I am working on memorizing that.
I hoped that drinking the water out of my "frugal bottles" might make me magically frugal.
I went shopping yesterday.
I am sad to say it didn't work.
Anyway the swap rocked-
look at all those shoes!
Thanks Everyone!!!
Then on Wednesday I made the BEST zucchini bread E.V.E.R.
My neighbor gave me two ginormous zucchini that I grated 18 cups of zucchini.
Used 3- froze 15- I thought that was very provident of me!
(btw I have started using provident as an adjective-
it means I did something provident living like-
 I hope it's not confusing.)
And then,
wait for it...
wait for it...
I made zucchini bread with
whole wheat flour
that I grinded with my WHEAT GRINDER!!!
(I sold the Wii!)
The bread was pure deliciousness.
And provident.
So that takes me to Thursday.
But let's skip Thursday-
it wasn't so provident-
it may have included Little and Caesars,
but I did make a salad to go with it.
And today-
we took Annie to meet her teacher- Mrs. Bott.
She told me when we were getting ready she felt like she might throw up.
But then we got there and she wasn't intimidated at all.
I think it helped that Annie was almost as tall as Mrs. Bott.
School starts MONDAY!!!
(Kinda Freakin' Out- just a little).
Coming up this weekend...
Double Date tonight
End of Summer Hot Dog Roast/S'mores on Saturday
Back to School Feast on Sunday
First day of School on Monday
So exciting!
(and impressive- if I do say so myself).

"Prepare" yourself, this is funny.

Kate "being prepared."
So yesterday I was asked to be the ward's "Provident Living Specialist" I think it is called.
The funny thing about this is that I live in a ward FULL of Provident Livers... bread bakers, wheat grinding, canners of family recipes, husbands build shelves for food storage from trees they chop down themselves. I even met one girl who's family has not only the year supply of food that is recommended... her family has a year and a half supply!
But they called me.
And you all know me.
  • I used to be practically on the board of a few fast food restaurants because Brock and I ate there so often our first 3 years of marriage. I'm surprised Annie's name wasn't Wendy or Carl or something like that.
  • I am not frugal. I do not shop at garage sales. I never find anything on the side of the road and repurpose it into something cute I can take a picture of and show it on my blog. Never done it.
  • I can walk into a store and tell you what is the most expensive thing in there... because it's the one I like.
  • I don't know how to can.
  • I am afraid of bochilism.
  • I don't know how to spell bochilism.
  • My garden has squash bugs and my apple tree has worms.
And yet they called ME to be a SPECIALIST for provident living.
***
Just for fun, let's talk about what I have in my "storage."
  1. Wheat in some cans- some red- some white. Not sure the difference, but I got some of both just in case.
  2. A hand wheat grinder. I hear that if I want to grind some wheat to make bread, it will only take me a couple hours to get enough.
  3. Two backpacks- filled with things I might need in an emergency- like flashlights (wait, nope, no flashlights- the girls must have took those out to play with), 3 month old clothes for Tessa (perfect) and diapers that are 3 sizes too small, some clothes for the girls (yup- too small too) and a jar of Peanut Butter.
  4. Some beans, sugar, oats- not sure how much of each- but they are in there.
  5. Some gauze pads, ace bandage and a bunch of rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide- not sure what I would even do with any of it!
So there you have it. Oh and I'm also following the most amazing woman ever in this calling. Now she's Kate's nursery teacher and she is so amazing as that too- you know those kind of women? They rock.

I've decided two things about this:
  • One is that my motto will be, "If I can do it...ANYONE can do it."
  • And the other, is that there are some folks in my ward that have a really great sense of humor.
What are some things you think I should do?
Any suggestions?
Help?
:)

p.s. so I'm clear. I'm thrilled to do this calling. I think all of this is super important. I only question my qualifications. But I seriously will try super hard. Just to be clear.
